The leather interior presents in excellent condition and features a wood / leather steering wheel (Code 289) with matching wood shift knob (Code 284). The convertible soft top is new, including new windows and headlining, and the hydraulic rams have been replaced. This SL500 also comes with the sought after Panoramic Glass Roof (Code 415) including the hardtop cover and stand.

The Benz has been owned by the current enthusiast since September 2019, with a current odometer reading of 207,000 km (129,000 miles). It benefits from an extensive maintenance record, long-term private ownership, and significant recent refurbishment of major mechanical, hydraulic and cosmetic items. An extensive file is included, with documented major works, stamped books and historical records.

Originally UK delivered new in January 1997, this SL500 was imported into Australia in 2006 with its original owner and is totally rust free and benefits from coil-spring suspension, avoiding the problematic ADS system fitted to most Australian-delivered cars. The vehicle sits on period-correct AMG “Style 1” 18-inch alloy wheels, with the original 8-hole factory wheels and Dunlop tyres also included. The Benz has also been fitted with a SuperSprint exhaust with the original resonator supplied.

The Benz arguably presents as one of the most sorted, best maintained higher kilometre SL500s available. The current owner has prioritised reliability, drivability and presentation, with all major R129 weak points proactively addressed. As a result, it is markedly superior to many R129s with half the distance travelled, supported by a preventative, open chequebook approach to servicing and upkeep.
