Rare, Authentic Buchloe-Built V12 Performance Sedan
Autohaus is proud to present this exceptional 1998 Alpina B12 5.7, one of only nine right-hand-drive examples produced by Alpina’s Buchloe factory in Germany. Built on the BMW E38 750i short wheelbase platform, this is no ordinary 7 Series—it's Alpina’s ultimate expression of power, refinement, and exclusivity in the late 1990s.
Alpina took delivery of these cars new from BMW, before extensively re-engineering them to create a bespoke grand touring sedan. The upgrades included an enlarged 5.7-litre V12 (using Mahle pistons, reworked heads and intakes), an enhanced suspension setup, signature 20-inch multi-spoke wheels, aerodynamic body styling, and a unique Alpina-trimmed interior. Power is delivered through the ZF 5HP30 5-speed automatic transmission, recalibrated by Alpina for smooth and responsive performance. The result: 390hp and 560Nm of torque, with 0–100 km/h in approximately 6 seconds and a top speed approaching 300 km/h.
This Alpina is number 130 of just 202 E38 B12s ever produced and was originally delivered to Europe—one of the few markets where the short-wheelbase V12 was available, unlike Australia. It is verified by an official Alpina Certificate of Authenticity and comes with a fully stamped original service book, complemented by a substantial file of invoices and ownership records dating back to 2003. Adding to its pedigree, this particular example has been featured in the Alpina Archive, spotlighted on PistonHeads, and appeared on the cover of the BMW Car Club UK magazine.
The vehicle was imported into Australia in 2021 by its previous owner through Old Colonel Cars (UK), before changing hands to the current, Alpina enthusiast in 2023. Upon acquisition, it was promptly registered in Western Australia with all import documentation correctly processed. Since then, the current owner has invested significantly in maintenance and thoughtful enhancements, including:
· Surface rust professionally inspected, media blasted and treated; affected components restored or replaced
· Suspension and braking overhaul including Nagengast-rebuilt rear EDC dampers, new front caster and tie-rod arms
· Fuel tank repaired, relined, and all associated hoses and lines renewed
· New Michelin PS4S front tyres
· Air-conditioning system overhaul with new compressor and re-gas
· Replacement thermo fan
· OEM-look modern audio system fitted with CarPlay, Bluetooth, and navigation (original parts retained)
· Cosmetic refresh including new front/rear bumper mouldings, kidney grilles, Alpina badging, and OEM headlining
· Full interior and exterior detail, including professional machine polish
