1954 Alvis TC21/100 “Grey Lady”

Rare Australian Delivery | Useable Post War Saloon | Restored Example

Autohaus Storage is pleased to present this exceptional opportunity to acquire an 1954 Alvis TC21/100 “Grey Lady”, offered in restored condition and supported by rare Australian delivery provenance. This Mulliner-bodied saloon was restored prior to acquisition by the current custodian in 2022 and is finished in an elegant two-tone black over yellow, complemented by cream leather upholstery.

This example is one of only six Grey Lady models sold new in Australia, originally delivered on 16 February 1954 through Aubrey Melrose Motors, Adelaide. A copy of the original sales record confirms Chassis 25449 was supplied in black with red pleated upholstery, complete with the full Grey Lady specification, including wire wheels with knock-on hubs, English speedometer, Lucas P700 headlamps, fog and flare lamps, bonnet top cowls, side louvres, pleated trim, de-mister plates, and modified rear wings.

The Grey Lady featured an upgraded 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder engine producing 115 hp, with twin SU carburettors, a high-compression 8:1 cylinder head, improved manifolding, a larger radiator, and a 3.77:1 final drive, paired with a Moss four-speed manual gearbox. The TC21/100 holds an important place in post-war British motoring history, being one of only four cars to exceed 100 mph during The Autocar magazine’s 1953 road test of 33 manufacturers competing to reach the “magic ton”.

The car is accompanied by a comprehensive history file, including original sales records, ownership history, period road tests and technical literature, a 2022 Alvis Club Magazine featuring the car as the cover story, two keys, Alvis reference books, and a new copy of “The Red Triangle” parts catalogue.

Rare, documented, and restored, this Australian-delivered Alvis TC21/100 Grey Lady represents a compelling acquisition for the discerning collector, combining genuine provenance, period performance credentials, and elegant Mulliner coachwork in a highly usable post-war sporting saloon.
