Autohaus Storage is pleased to present this charming 1959 Austin-Healey Sprite Mk I, affectionately known as the “Frog-Eye” or “Bugeye” Sprite - an iconic piece of British motoring history. Finished in bright red with a silver bonnet stripe and black upholstery, this early-production Mk I is an attractive and highly usable classic, ideal for weekend touring, club events, and spirited motoring.

 

Built on 6 January 1959 and despatched to Australia on 13 January 1959, the Sprite was originally finished in Old English White with red trim and a black hood. It left the factory in right-hand-drive export specification and was equipped with period features including a rev counter, front bumper, tonneau cover, locking petrol cap, windscreen washer and toughened windscreen glass.

 

The Sprite has benefited from refurbishment and significant mechanical investment, including a fully rebuilt and uprated engine (bored to approximately 1198cc), new clutch, reconditioned brakes, new tyres, new carpets, and a near-new soft top with side screens and tonneau cover.

 

Importantly, it is accompanied by the original 1982 BL Heritage Certificate verifying its provenance, along with correspondence and period photographs from a long-term owner (1978–1989), as well as a file of recent receipts documenting extensive mechanical work.
